last last wednesday (as in, 2 wednesdays ago...lagging) was supposed to be great. the agenda consisted of feeding the birds on the steps of st. paul's cathedral and finishing up sabrina and my victoria and albert excursion. and then, we realized, this london friendsday coincided with...
THE TUBE STRIKE.
i hate when there is a tube strike. i have literally never had a good day on a day that the tubes aren't running. this was no exception.
the tube was only running to a few stops, so we got off about a mile away from st. paul's (maybe not a mile, but far). fail one. we walked and walked through the city of london (which is a portion of london that is mostly a business district) until we arrived. we put on our best mary poppins faces and sang "feed the birds" while feeding the birds stale croutons. sabrina was really good at it; she would crumble the croutons first and then the birds would wobble over to them and it was all fine and dandy.
[tuppence a bag, just like julie andrews]
i hate birds. especially pigeons. nothing good comes out of birds (poop or bird flu...that's it). so i threw croutons onto the ground (i didn't know i was supposed to crumble them) and then its like the few pigeons that saw sabrina's feast caught wind of the news and made it for my round.
not so elegant. the birds totally choked on whole croutons. fail two.
we were going to try and make it to the v&a by bus, but when the tube strikes the buses go crazy and to make it across the city would take hours, so we decided to make this particular london friendsday into a london friendsday: movie edition! we visited the millennium bridge (harry potter and the half-blood prince, duh) and saw gringotts (which is actually just this place called australia house).
[millennium bridge...watch out for dementors]
eventually we ended up at piccadilly circus (part of the seventh harry potter movie was filmed there!) and we ate cake while we figured out what to do next. both of us were really disappointed in our lack of planning for this friendsday because we are usually so scheduled! so where do we turn for a pick-me-up? shopping. we decided we would end the day with a movie.
when we missed the movie due to a last-minute decision to go to zara (fail three, but also a non-fail because we bought lots of cute things), we decided the day was over and we needed to go home. easy enough. we finally found a bus stop and stood with 32039502 people waiting to get home. during rush hour. fail four.
after watching full bus after full bus of people drive by without room to pick anyone up, we finally were allowed on a bus going towards home! success! we knew it would take a while so we headed to the top deck to enjoy the view as we sat. on the way to the open seats, sabrina hit every single person sitting on the aisle on the head with her shopping bags. fail five. and then i stepped in puke. fail six. and we had so many shopping bags, we were drowning underneath our purchases on a full bus. i lost count of the fails.
[annoyed]
so that was london friendsday. i guess they can't all be winners.
Okay. This one made me laugh. (Sorry, Al) First, you need practice on "feeding the birds". Your form is just all ... wrong. Hahaha. (We can do a few run-throughs at the lake when you get home). Second, we are having a hard time feeling tooooo sorry for you. You are in London, after all. And you went shopping! And you had too many bags? Boo. Hoo. (That's my wallet crying.) Miss you and love you, and can't wait for the next update! I know there is good stuff comin'!
